# Your First Prompt
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/getting-started/first-steps
Learn how to write effective prompts and get the best results from ChatGPT for Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 apps.
## Writing Your First Prompt
Now that you've installed ChatGPT for Google Workspace or a Microsoft 365 app, let's write your first prompt. The key to great results is being clear about what you want.
## Quick Start
Here's the simplest way to get started:
Highlight the text or data you want help with. This gives the app context about what you're working on.
Click the ChatGPT AI icon or button to open the chat panel in your app.
Type what you want to do in the chat box. Be specific about your request (e.g., "Rewrite this in a professional tone" or "Summarize the key points").
Read the result in the chat panel. Click **Copy** to copy it to your clipboard, or ask follow-up questions to refine it.
## Tips for Better Results
Instead of "Make this better," try "Rewrite this in a professional tone for a client email."
The more context you give, the better the results. Include who you're writing for and why.
Show CoreGPT an example of what you want. "Write in the style of..." helps a lot.
Click **Regenerate** to get different options. Pick the one you like best.

# Custom AI Assistants
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/google-workspace/docs/assistants
Create custom AI assistants with your own instructions to control tone, sign-off, language, and behavior in the GPT Chat Assistant — all within ChatGPT for Google Workspace in Google Docs.
## What Are Custom Assistants?
Custom assistants let you give the AI a set of instructions it will follow in every chat response. Instead of repeating "always write formally" or "match our brand voice" in each message, you write those instructions once in an assistant, activate it, and the AI behaves that way automatically.
You can create multiple assistants and switch between them — for example one for formal contracts and another for casual blog drafts.
## How to Create an Assistant
Click **Extensions** → **ChatGPT for Google Workspace** → **🚀 Launch GPT** to open the sidebar.
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the sidebar.
Scroll to the **Assistants** row and click **Manage**.
Click **Create assistant** at the top of the page.
Enter a short name that describes its purpose — for example **Legal Formal** or **Marketing Voice**.
In the **Instructions** field, describe how the AI should behave. Be as specific as you need — see the examples below.
Click **Save**. The assistant is now created and set as active.
## How to Switch Between Assistants
Switching is done from the same **Assistants** page where you manage them.
1. Open **Settings** → **Assistants** → **Manage**.
2. Tap any assistant in the list to make it active — a checkmark appears next to the active one.
3. Tap the active assistant again to deselect it and go back to **Default** (no custom instructions).
4. To switch to a different assistant, simply tap another one.
The active assistant is remembered across sessions. Every chat message you send will use its instructions until you change it.
## Editing and Deleting Assistants
On the **Assistants** page:
* Click the **pencil icon** next to an assistant to edit its name or instructions.
* Click the **trash icon** to delete it. You will be asked to confirm before it is removed.
## Writing Effective Instructions
Instructions tell the AI exactly how to behave. The clearer and more specific they are, the better the results.
"Always write in a formal, professional tone. Avoid contractions and casual language."
"Organize long answers with clear headings and short paragraphs."
"Always respond in Spanish, regardless of the language of my request."
"Write in a friendly, approachable tone. Use short sentences. Never use jargon."

* `=COREGPT_TRANSLATE(A1, "Spanish")`
* `=COREGPT_EXTRACT(A1, "email address")`
* `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY(A1, "High Priority, Medium Priority, Low Priority")`
* `=COREGPT_SUMMARIZE(A1)`
* `=COREGPT_FORMAT(A1, "Title Case")`
**For Analysis:**
* "Find trends in sales by month"
* "Identify outliers in this dataset"
* "Analyze which products have highest profit margins"
## Troubleshooting
Be more specific with your categories. Instead of "Classify," try:
* "Classify as: Hot Lead, Warm Lead, Cold Lead based on engagement level"
* "Categorize by: Urgent, Important, Can Wait"
Check that:
* You're using the correct function name (COREGPT, COREGPT\_TRANSLATE, etc.)
* Your cell references are in quotes or use proper range syntax
* The function parameters match the required format
* You have an active internet connection
If the function returns an error, try simplifying your prompt or parameters.
Try being more specific:
* "Summarize in 2-3 sentences"
* "Create a detailed summary with all key points"
* "Extract only the most important insights"
## Privacy & Security
Your spreadsheets are safe:
* We never store your data or spreadsheets
* All processing is encrypted
* Your data stays in your Google account
* We don't use your data to train models

# Custom AI Assistants
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/google-workspace/sheets/assistants
Create custom AI assistants with your own instructions to control tone, language, and behavior in the GPT Chat Assistant — all within ChatGPT for Google Workspace in Google Sheets.
## What Are Custom Assistants?
Custom assistants let you give the AI a set of instructions it will follow in every chat response. Instead of repeating "always answer concisely" or "respond in Spanish" in each message, you write those instructions once in an assistant, activate it, and the AI behaves that way automatically.
You can create multiple assistants and switch between them — for example one for data analysis and another for drafting reports.
Enter a short name that describes its purpose — for example **Data Analyst** or **Formal Spanish**.
"Always answer concisely. Use bullet points and avoid long paragraphs."
"When suggesting formulas, always show the full formula and a one-line explanation."
"Always respond in Spanish, regardless of the language of my question."
"You are a financial analyst. Frame all answers around budgeting and forecasting."
### More instruction examples
**Tone:**
* "Be concise. Prefer short, direct answers."
* "Explain your reasoning step by step before giving the final answer."
**Output and formatting:**
* "Always return results as a table when listing data."
* "When you suggest a Sheets formula, wrap it in backticks and explain each argument."
**Content rules:**
* "Assume the first row of any selected range is a header."
* "When analyzing data, always point out the top and bottom values."
**Language:**
* "Respond in French. Maintain a professional register."
* "Translate all summaries into Japanese."

# CoreGPT AI for Excel
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/excel
Supercharge your spreadsheets with CoreGPT AI for Excel. Use AI-powered custom Excel functions and a free-form chat assistant to analyze, translate, classify, and summarize data.
## Supercharge Your Spreadsheets with CoreGPT AI for Excel
AI-powered assistance right inside Microsoft Excel. CoreGPT AI for Excel gives you two tools: **GPT Functions** — custom Excel functions powered by AI that work directly in your cells — and a free-form **AI Chat** assistant.
## Key Features
### GPT Functions
Custom Excel functions that bring AI directly into your spreadsheet formulas. Use them just like any built-in Excel function — type them in a cell and get AI-powered results instantly.
**Available functions:**
| Function | Parameters | What it does |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| `=COREGPT(prompt, [source])` | prompt, source (optional) | Ask AI anything — most flexible function |
| `=COREGPT_TRANSLATE(source, language)` | source, language | Translates text to any language |
| `=COREGPT_EXTRACT(source, value)` | source, value | Extracts a specific value from text |
| `=COREGPT_FORMAT(source, format)` | source, format | Formats text (e.g., capitalize, title case) |
| `=COREGPT_SUMMARIZE(source)` | source | Summarizes text into key points |
| `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY(source, categories)` | source, categories | Classifies text into your defined categories |
**Function examples:**
* `=COREGPT("give me 10 ideas about travelling")`
* `=COREGPT_TRANSLATE("banana is yellow fruit", "French")`
* `=COREGPT_EXTRACT("please notify john@gmail.com every day", "email")`
* `=COREGPT_FORMAT("world is changing with technology", "capitalize")`
* `=COREGPT_SUMMARIZE("your long content here")`
* `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY("car", "home, vehicle, human")`
### AI Chat
A free-form chat assistant that works with your selected cells. Select a range of data, then ask the assistant anything about it — or start a conversation from scratch.
**What you can do:**
* Ask questions about your selected data
* Get formula suggestions and explanations
* Analyze trends and patterns in your data
* Brainstorm ideas and approaches
* Ask follow-up questions to refine results
* Copy any response to your clipboard
## How to Use
### Using GPT Functions
Click on any empty cell where you want the AI result to appear.
Start typing `=COREGPT` and Excel will show the available functions. Select the one you need.
Add your prompt or reference a cell containing the text you want to process. For example: `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY(A2, "positive, negative, neutral")`
The function runs and the AI result appears in the cell. Drag the formula down to apply it to multiple rows.
### Using AI Chat
Click **Home** → **CoreGPT AI for Excel** to open the sidebar.
Click the **AI Chat** tab at the top of the sidebar.
Highlight a range of cells to give the assistant context about what you're working on.
Type your request in the chat box and press Enter (e.g., "What trends do you see in this data?" or "How do I calculate a running total?").
Click **Copy** on any response to copy it to your clipboard.
## Tips & Best Practices
Enter a GPT function in one cell, then drag it down to apply it to hundreds of rows at once — great for bulk classification or translation.
Instead of typing text directly, reference cells: `=COREGPT_SUMMARIZE(B2)`. This lets you process dynamic data automatically.
Define your own categories: `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY(A2, "urgent, normal, low priority")` — perfect for tagging support tickets, feedback, or tasks.
Not sure which function to use? Ask the AI Chat: "How do I extract the domain from an email address?" and get an explanation with examples.
## Example Use Cases
**Sentiment analysis on a column of reviews:**
* `=COREGPT_CLASSIFY(A2, "positive, negative, neutral")` — drag down to classify all rows
**Translate a product list to French:**
* `=COREGPT_TRANSLATE(B2, "French")` — drag down to translate all items
**Extract emails from a text column:**
* `=COREGPT_EXTRACT(C2, "email address")`
**Summarize long feedback entries:**
* `=COREGPT_SUMMARIZE(D2)` — condense each entry into a short summary
## Troubleshooting
Check these common issues:
* Make sure the cell reference is correct and not empty
* Verify you have an active internet connection
* Check that you're signed in to the add-in
* Try refreshing the function by pressing F2 then Enter
Try being more specific in your prompt. For COREGPT\_CLASSIFY, make sure your categories are clearly defined and separated by commas.
Try these steps:
1. Close and reopen Microsoft Excel
2. Sign out and sign back in
3. Check your internet connection
4. Reinstall the add-in if the issue persists
Yes! Each function call processes one cell at a time. For large datasets, apply the formula to the full column. Note that each cell uses credits, so large datasets will use more credits.
## Privacy & Security
Your data is safe:
* We never store your spreadsheets or data
* All processing is encrypted
* Your data stays in your Excel account
* We don't use your data to train models

# Custom AI Assistants
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/excel/assistants
Create custom AI assistants with your own instructions to control tone, language, and behavior in the AI Chat — all within CoreGPT AI for Excel.
## What Are Custom Assistants?
Custom assistants let you give the AI a set of instructions it will follow in every AI Chat response. Instead of repeating "always answer concisely" or "respond in Spanish" in each message, you write those instructions once in an assistant, activate it, and the AI behaves that way automatically.
You can create multiple assistants and switch between them — for example one for data analysis and another for drafting reports.
## How to Create an Assistant
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the add-in.
Scroll to the **Assistants** row and click **Manage**.
Click **Create assistant** at the top of the page.
Enter a short name that describes its purpose — for example **Data Analyst** or **Formal Spanish**.
Every AI Chat message you send will use its instructions until you change it.
* "Always return results as a markdown table when listing data."
* "When you suggest an Excel formula, wrap it in backticks and explain each argument."
**Content rules:**
* "Assume the first row of any selected range is a header."
* "When analyzing data, always point out the top and bottom values."
**Language:**
* "Respond in French. Maintain a professional register."
* "Translate all summaries into Japanese."
## Frequently Asked Questions

# Custom AI Assistants
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/outlook/assistants
Create custom AI assistants with your own instructions to control tone, sign-off, language, and behavior — all within CoreGPT AI for Outlook.
## What Are Custom Assistants?
Custom assistants let you give the AI a set of instructions it will follow in every response. Instead of repeating "always write formally" or "sign every email as Sarah from Support" in each message, you write those instructions once in an assistant, activate it, and the AI behaves that way automatically.
You can create multiple assistants and switch between them — for example one for internal team emails and another for client-facing communication.
## How to Create an Assistant
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the add-in.
Scroll to the **Assistants** row and click **Manage**.
Click **Create assistant** at the top of the page.
Enter a short name that describes its purpose — for example **Formal English** or **Client Support**.
In the **Instructions** field, describe how the AI should behave. Be as specific as you need — see the examples below.
Click **Save**. The assistant is now created and set as active.
## How to Switch Between Assistants
Switching is done from the same **Assistants** page where you manage them.

"Always write in a formal, professional tone. Avoid contractions and casual language."
"End every email with: Best regards, Alex Chen | Customer Success"
"Always respond in Spanish, regardless of the language of the incoming email."
"Write in a friendly, approachable tone. Use short sentences. Never use jargon."

# Pin the Add-in
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/outlook/pin-add-in
Keep CoreGPT AI for Outlook open as you switch between emails. Pinning the panel means the AI context updates automatically — no need to reopen it each time.
## Why Pin the Add-in?
By default, the CoreGPT AI panel closes when you navigate away from an email. Every time you open a different email, you need to reopen it manually.
When you **pin** the panel, it stays open as you move through your inbox. The **Selected email** context updates automatically each time you click on a new email — so the AI always has the current message ready without any extra steps.
**Benefits of pinning:**
* Panel stays open across all emails
* Selected email context refreshes automatically on every switch
* No need to reopen the add-in each time
* Faster workflow when processing multiple emails in a row

Click on an email in your inbox to open it.
Click the **CoreGPT AI for Outlook** icon in the toolbar or apps bar at the top of the email.
Click the **pin icon** (📌) in the top-right corner of the panel. The icon will turn solid/highlighted to confirm it is pinned.
Click through your inbox. The panel stays open and the selected email updates with each click.

# Your first 30 seconds with CoreGPT AI for Outlook
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/outlook/quick-start
Find the CoreGPT icon in your Outlook toolbar and try your first AI action in under a minute.
## Where is the CoreGPT icon?
The add-in is already installed — you just need to find the icon. It lives in the **Outlook toolbar** when you have an email open.
The icon only appears when you have an email open — it won't show in your inbox list view.
## Open the add-in
Click on an email in your inbox to open it.
Look for the **apps bar** at the top-right of the email — it shows small icons for your installed add-ins.
Click the **CoreGPT AI for Outlook** icon. The panel opens on the right side.
Click on an email to open it in the reading pane.
In the **Home** tab ribbon, look for the **CoreGPT AI for Outlook** button. It may be under the **Apps** group or **More commands (…)**.
Click the button to open the add-in panel on the right.
Double-click an email to open it in its own window, or select it so it appears in the reading pane.
In the **Home** or **Message** tab, look for **CoreGPT AI for Outlook** in the ribbon.
Click it to open the task pane on the right side of the email.
## Your first action — Summarize a thread
Once the panel is open:
Click on any email thread — the longer the better for this test.
Find the **Summarize thread** button in the CoreGPT panel and click it.
The AI reads the entire thread and returns a clean bullet-point summary.
## Can't find the icon?
The icon only appears when an email is open. Make sure you've clicked on an email to open it — it won't appear in the inbox list view.
If you're in Outlook desktop and still can't see it, check under **More commands (…)** in the ribbon, or go to **Home → Apps → My Add-ins** to confirm CoreGPT is enabled.
Try these steps:
1. Refresh the page (OWA) or restart Outlook (desktop)
2. Sign out of CoreGPT and sign back in
3. Disable and re-enable the add-in from **Manage Add-ins** in Outlook settings
In classic Outlook, the button appears in the ribbon under the **Home** tab when reading an email. If you can't see it, click the **…** (More commands) button at the end of the ribbon — it may be hidden due to screen width.
This usually means the add-in needs a moment to load. Wait 5–10 seconds and refresh. If it stays blank, sign out and back in from the CoreGPT panel.

# Selected Email Context
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/outlook/selected-email
Learn how CoreGPT AI for Outlook automatically reads your open email and uses it as context for the AI — no copy-pasting needed.
## What Is the Selected Email?
When you open an email in Outlook, CoreGPT AI for Outlook automatically reads it and shows a **Selected email** indicator in the chat input area. This means the AI already has your email loaded as context — you can ask questions about it without copying and pasting anything.
The indicator appears as a badge showing a preview of the email body. Hover over it to see the full content.
## What the AI Receives
When you send a message with an email selected, the AI receives:
* **Subject** — the email subject line
* **From** — sender name and email address
* **Date** — when the email was sent
* **Body** — the full plain-text body of the email
When composing a new email, only the body content you've typed so far is passed (subject and sender details are not yet available in compose mode).
## How to Use It
You don't need to do anything special — just open an email in Outlook and the context is picked up automatically.
**Example requests you can make:**
* "Summarize this email in 3 bullet points"
* "Draft a professional reply"
* "What action items does this email contain?"
* "Translate this to French"

## Switching Between Emails
When you switch to a different email, the selected email context updates automatically — but only if the add-in panel is **pinned open**.
Without pinning, the panel closes when you navigate away and you need to reopen it each time. With pinning, the context refreshes as you click through your inbox.
Keep the panel open across all emails with one click.
## Frequently Asked Questions
If no email is selected or open, the indicator won't appear. You can still use the AI chat — it just won't have email context unless you describe the situation yourself.
The email content is only sent to the AI when you send a message. Opening an email does not trigger any AI processing on its own.
Yes — with a Premium plan, the AI agent can search your inbox and read emails on your behalf using Microsoft Graph. You can ask things like "What unread emails need my attention?" without having a specific email open.

## Create Presentations Faster with CoreGPT AI for PowerPoint
AI-powered presentation creation right inside Microsoft PowerPoint. CoreGPT AI for PowerPoint gives you two tools: **GPT Slides** — which generates a complete presentation from a topic — and a free-form **AI Chat** assistant for refining your content.
## Key Features
### GPT Slides
Generate a full slide deck from scratch. Just enter your topic, choose your options, and the AI builds the entire presentation directly inside PowerPoint.
**What you configure:**
* **Topic** — describe the subject of your presentation
* **Number of slides** — choose between 1 and 10 slides
* **Presentation style** — pick the visual and content style:
* 💼 Professional
* 🧢 Casual
* 🎓 Academic
* 🎨 Creative
* 🧊 Minimal
* **Target audience** — choose who the presentation is for:
* 🌍 General Audience
* 👔 Executives
* 📚 Students
* 🧠 Technical Experts
* 🧒 Children
* **Additional prompt** — optional extra instructions (e.g., "include emojis", "focus on cost savings", "add a Q\&A slide")
The slides are generated and inserted directly into your PowerPoint file as you watch.
### AI Chat
A free-form chat assistant that works with your selected slide content. Select text on a slide, then ask the assistant to help you improve, rewrite, or expand it.
**What you can do:**
* Ask questions about your presentation content
* Get suggestions for slide improvements
* Rewrite text for a different audience or tone
* Generate speaker notes for a slide
* Brainstorm ideas for new slides
* Ask follow-up questions to refine results
* Copy any response to your clipboard
**Example prompts shown in the app:**
* "Create a presentation outline for my topic"
* "Generate slide content for this section"
* "Suggest design improvements for my slides"
* "Write speaker notes for this presentation"
## How to Use
### Using GPT Slides
Click **Home** → **CoreGPT AI for PowerPoint** to open the sidebar.
Click the **GPT Slides** tab at the top of the sidebar.
Type the subject of your presentation in the Topic field (e.g., "Healthy eating habits for busy professionals").
Set the number of slides, presentation style, and target audience. Add any extra instructions in the Additional Prompt field if needed.
Click **🚀 Generate**. The slides are created and inserted into your PowerPoint file one by one as they stream in.
### Using AI Chat
Click **Home** → **CoreGPT AI for PowerPoint** to open the sidebar.
Click the **AI Chat** tab at the top of the sidebar.
Click on a slide or highlight text to give the assistant context about what you're working on.
Type your request in the chat box and press Enter (e.g., "Write speaker notes for this slide" or "Make this more concise for executives").
Click **Copy** on any response to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into your slide.
## Tips & Best Practices
Choose the right style and audience combination — a "Minimal + Executives" deck looks very different from a "Creative + Students" one.
The Additional Prompt field is powerful. Add specific instructions like "include a timeline slide", "use bullet points only", or "add statistics where relevant."
After generating slides with GPT Slides, switch to AI Chat to refine individual slides — improve wording, adjust tone, or add speaker notes.
Generate more slides than you need, then delete the ones that don't fit. It's faster than generating too few and adding more later.
## Example Topics
**Business:**
* "Q3 sales performance review for the executive team"
* "Product roadmap for 2025 — technical audience"
**Education:**
* "Introduction to machine learning for students"
* "Climate change causes and solutions — general audience"
**Internal:**
* "New employee onboarding overview"
* "Team project update — casual style"
## Troubleshooting
Try adding more detail to the Topic field and use the Additional Prompt to give specific instructions. For example: "Focus on the financial benefits, include 2 case study slides, and end with a call to action."
This can happen with connection interruptions. Try generating again — you can delete the partially created slides first. Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
Try these steps:
1. Close and reopen Microsoft PowerPoint
2. Sign out and sign back in
3. Check your internet connection
4. Reinstall the add-in if the issue persists
Yes! The slides are inserted as normal PowerPoint slides. You can edit text, change layouts, add images, and modify anything just like any other slide.

# Custom AI Assistants
Source: https://help.coregptapps.com/microsoft-365/word/assistants
Create custom AI assistants with your own instructions to control tone, sign-off, language, and behavior in the AI Chat — all within CoreGPT AI for Word.
## What Are Custom Assistants?
Custom assistants let you give the AI a set of instructions it will follow in every AI Chat response.
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the add-in.
Scroll to the **Assistants** row and click **Manage**.
Click **Create assistant** at the top of the page.
Every AI Chat message you send will use its instructions until you change it.
### More instruction examples
**Tone:**
* "Use a warm but professional tone in all responses."
* "Be concise. Aim for short paragraphs unless more detail is needed."
* "Avoid using passive voice."
**Style and structure:**
* "Always start drafts with a one-sentence summary, then the full text."
* "Use British English spelling throughout."
**Content rules:**
* "Never invent statistics or sources. If unsure, say so."
* "When rewriting, preserve the original meaning and keep roughly the same length."
**Language:**
* "Respond in French. Maintain a professional register."
* "Translate all summaries into Japanese."
## Frequently Asked Questions
There is no fixed limit — you can create as many assistants as you need.
