# CoreGPT AI for Gmail

> Summarize long email threads, draft replies in your tone, pull out action items and translate emails, right next to your Gmail inbox.

CoreGPT sits in the side panel next to your inbox. Open an email and it can summarize the thread, draft a reply, list what needs doing or translate it, without copying anything into a separate chatbot.

## Open CoreGPT in Gmail

**1. Install it once**

Install **GPT for Google Workspace™** from the [Google Workspace Marketplace](https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/coregpt_ai_for_workspace/845108372332). The same install adds CoreGPT to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms. See [Install for Google Workspace](/getting-started/install-google-workspace.md).

**2. Open the side panel**

In Gmail on the web, click the **CoreGPT** icon in the panel on the right. If the panel is hidden, click the small arrow at the bottom right to show it.

**3. Sign in**

The first time, Google asks you to allow access. CoreGPT can only read the email you have open, not your whole inbox.

## Work with an email

Open any email and the panel updates on its own. Under **AI actions for this email**:

| Action | What you get |
| - | - |
| **Summarize** | The key points of the email or thread |
| **Draft reply** | A reply in your tone, ready to insert as a draft |
| **Action items** | Tasks, owners and deadlines from the email |
| **Translate** | The email in your language |

You can also type your own request under **Ask AI about this email**, for example:

* "What does the sender want from me?"
* "Is anything here urgent?"
* "Reply in French, declining politely"

### Quick replies

Under **Quick reply**, one click drafts a common answer: **Yes, sounds good**, **Decline politely** or **Ask for more time**.

### Refine and insert a reply

After a draft reply appears, use **Shorten**, **More formal** or **Friendlier** to adjust it. Click **Insert as reply draft** to put it into a reply you can edit before sending. CoreGPT never sends email for you.

## Write a new email

* **From the home panel:** with no email open, describe the email under **Or write a new email with AI** (for example "Thank a client for the meeting") and click **Write email**. Then click **Open as new email**.
* **While composing:** in the compose window, click the CoreGPT icon in the bottom toolbar and choose **Draft with AI**. Type instructions, or paste your draft, pick a tone, then click **Write email** or **Improve text**. The text goes straight into your draft.

## Plans

* **Free:** free credits to try every feature.
* **Standard:** unlimited use.
* **Premium:** unlimited use with the smartest AI models. It also reads the whole thread and attachments (PDFs and images) for better answers, and supports saved reply styles.

Gmail is also included in the [Google Workspace suite plan](/getting-started/plans-and-credits.md), together with every other Google app.

## Troubleshooting

> **I don't see the CoreGPT icon in Gmail**
>
> Make sure the side panel is showing (arrow at the bottom right of Gmail) and reload the page. If it's still missing, install it again from the Marketplace.

> **The panel says to open an email**
>
> The email actions need an open email. Click an email in your inbox and the panel updates on its own.

> **I use Gmail through my work account and can't install it**
>
> Your Google Workspace admin may need to allow the add-on first. Send them the Marketplace link above.
